Library Cards & Loan Policies
Your Library Card--small enough to fit in your wallet, big enough to change your life.
Register online via the Library Catalog to get yourself a library card. Simply fill out the form and click 'register' when finished.
You will be issued a 6-digit temporary ID number which you can use to acquire a permanent library card. Bring your temporary ID number and a picture ID or, if you are under 15 years of age, permission from your guardian to complete the process.
Please note that all new users are considered temporary until a permanent address has been confirmed. Upon receiving your library card, you will be asked to self-address a postcard, which will be mailed to you by the library. Once you bring in your address postcard, your status will become permanent and you may have unlimited checkouts. Patrons with a temporary status may check out only two (2) items.
If you already have a library card or have lost your card, you do not need to use this to register for a new card. Come to the Missoula Public Library’s Accounts desk and talk with a staff member about your library account or about replacing your card.

Checkouts
All items will check out to you for four weeks with the exception of New Adult Fiction, Feature Film DVDs and Grab 'n Go items, which, due to their high demand, only check out for ten days. All items are eligible for renewal, except Grab 'n Go items. Renew Your Items Online here, or you can call us at (406)721-2665. We have book drops near both entrances to our building as well as book drops at Barnes and Noble and K-Mart. Fines are 10 cents per day, per item. All we ask is that you bring your library card each time you want to check out.
