Ever noticed a mistake on Wikipedia and wanted to fix it? Kristin Anderson wishes you would.

Anderson is a member of the board of Wikimedia DC – a non-profit organization that supports the work of volunteers on Wikipedia , and she’ll be at Missoula Public Library at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4th presenting a workshop on how to edit the “free, collaborative, multilingual Internet encyclopedia.”

Anderson, who works as a cataloger at the Library of Congress, hopes to recruit more editors of Montana topics by offering hands-on training. She’ll demonstrate - and participants will practice - steps to edit articles and upload material to the Internet, and the use of devices such as tablets and smartphones to do these tasks. The focus of edited content will be Montana’s heritage, such as:

  • buildings on the National Register of Historic Places,
  • mountain and lake names,
  • State Parks, and
  • Carnegie Libraries, among other subjects.

No registration is required and those wishing to attend can meet at the Large Meeting Room at the Missoula Public Library at 3:30, Friday, December 4th. Participants are welcome to bring their own internet devices for the hands-on portion of the presentation; some laptops will be available from the library.

More information on the workshop is available at Wikipedia’s Missoula Meetup Page.
