BOOK: Veganomicon: The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook

Veganomicon: The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero. Marlowe & Company, 2007.

By Molly Kliss, reference librarian

A dazzling array of over 250 recipes, Veganomicon is the vegan cookbook we've all been waiting for. Moskowitz and Romero, authors of Vegan with a Vengeance and Vegan Cupcakes Take over the World, prove that vegan cooking can be flavorful and filling without the use of fake meat and egg replacements. Symbols located next to each recipe and a helpful appendix of recipes listed by symbol indicate whether a dish is gluten-free, soy-free, low-fat, or takes less than 45 minutes to make. Recipes cover everything from brunch to dinner and dessert, Blueberry Corn Pancakes, Chile Cornmeal-Crusted Tofu Po'Boys, Eggplant-Potato Moussaka with Pine Nut Cream, and did I mention dessert? Recipes abound for muffins, cakes, pies and cookie, including my personal favorite, the Chocolate-Hazelnut Biscotti. While the appendix grouping recipes into menus could have benefited from the addition of page numbers, overall this book is a vegan treasure. Humorous recipe introductions and interesting, useful tips scattered throughout make Veganomicon a treat to both read and use.
