A Stitch In Time by Allison Bottke BOTTKE

A great chick lit that has a deeper story and many realistic problems for today’s women.  Realistic characters that provide great entertainment and no fluff.

If You Lived Here, I’d Know Your Name:  News from Small-Town Alaska by Heather Lende 979.82 LENDE

For readers that remember “Northern Exposure”, this is a true experience of Haines Alaska.  The author is a journalist who shows a true celebration of life through insightful anecdotes of a small Alaska town.  Haines Alaska sits in the shadow of a beautiful glacier.

Seasonal Disorder:  Ranger Tales from Glacier National Park by Pat Hagan 363.6809 HAGAN

Pat Hagen is a Park Ranger who spends his summers enjoying the nature and life in Glacier Park.  He has returned to the park for 19 years and loves sharing his insight and love for the Montana Paradise and it’s wild creatures.

Bridge to Terabithia by Catherine Patterson J PATTERSO

A true story of love in the real sense of the word, a friendship that one thinks will last forever.  Jess and Leslie could be what one calls soul mates.  They experience a secret kingdom in Terabithia where they plot against schoolmates that tease them.  The rope that swings them across the creek to the secret kingdom draws you into the secret woods until an accident touches Jess’s life forever.  This is a book that draws you back year after year.

No! I Don’t Want to Join a Book Club:  Diary of a Sixtieth Year by Virginia Ironside IRONSID

Baby Boomers are the target for this fun filled novel.  Marie is glad to act her age and excited to become a grandmother and is very easygoing about aging.  This witty diary shows the challenges and freedoms of getting older.

The Bipolar Child:  The Definitive and Reassuring Guide to Childhood’s Most Misunderstood Disorder by Demitri Papolos 618.9289 PAPOLOS

Nearly one-third of children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder may actually be bipolar.  Early-onset bipolar disorder is important to have diagnosed because the common ADHD drug, Ritalin, may worsen a bipolar child’s condition.  Practical ways to deal with the condition and the impact this disorder can have on the entire family is discussed in this guide.  This is a great read for parents, teachers and friends of families who may be facing this devastating diagnosis for a child.

From the Palmer Raids to the Patriot Act:  A History of the Fight for Free Speech in America by Chris Finan 323.443 FINAN

Librarians are among the guardians of Free Speech in America and are challenged by the Patriot Act.  This is not the first time in history that the First Amendment has been threatened and many have been brave enough to stand up for the rights of Americans.  It is hard to believe that in a civilized, free industrial nation like the US that we still face people who are afraid to let others express what they think.  This is a great history of those that have fought for the rights given to us by the First Amendment.

The Tipping Point:  How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference by Malcolm Gladwell 302 GLADWEL

Gladwell points out what he calls the “tipping point”, which is reached when the critical mass of human behavior ripples outward to change the world.  He has many terms to explain the behaviors of the society but the bottom line is how word of mouth changes our society and how experimentation is still alive and well and should not be stifled.  If you grew up in the 60’s this is a very interesting concept.

Chef Paul Myers of 515

Paul Myers started as a chef in Missoula at Slabs Bistro under Christian Guideman. He then worked with Dave McKuwen and Shirley Juhl to create the Bridge Bistro and Bridge Pizza. After a move to Washington state, he became Sous Chef with Tom Douglas at both the Palace Kitchen and Dahlia Lounge. Paul also got a taste of the east coast culinary scene while working at WD-50 with chef Wylie Dufresne in New York City. 515

Paul’s most recent culinary adventure has been the opening of 515 in 2006 with owner/proprietors Brae Bullard and Carrie Blabac- Myers. 515 is a unique addition to the Missoula downtown dining scene, with two dining rooms serving chef Paul Myers’ contemporary approach to cuisine. The first floor wine bar features at least fourteen wines by the glass, nine taps of local beer and a menu of European style appetizers to share. At least two nights a week, the wine bar hosts the Discount Quartet, a local jazz ensemble that adds to the wine bar’s distinctive atmosphere. The restaurant on the second floor is an intimate space with a full menu featuring chef Myers’ modern American fare. 515 also houses a movie theatre that books all varieties of entertainment from comedy troupes to independent animation festivals.
