Connecting Industrious Youth with Elderly Landowners
Mar 27, 6-7:30pm in Cooper Room
Got land, but have no one to bequeath it to? Want land, but can’t afford it? Need skills to run your own homestead? SKIP is for you! SKIP (SKills to Inherit Property) is an innovative and ingenious program intended to connect elderly landowners with industrious younger folk. Paul explains the whole thing from how you go about getting the skills through his SKIP events at Wheaton Labs, or through the DIY method in the permies.com forums. This could be the answer for anyone who wants to prevent their legacy from being turned into a development and for those who long for a home where the buffalo roam and the deer and antelope play.
Paul Wheaton is a powerful advocate of permaculture. He was dubbed the “Duke of Permaculture ” by experts Geoff Lawton and Sepp Holzer. Paul is the owner of permies.com, the largest online community for homesteaders and permaculturists, and Wheaton Labs, his place near Missoula where he hosts numerous educational and training events. He has produced over 600 podcasts, 200 YouTube videos and a dozen feature-length films. He has presented at over 100 events around the US, and has written dozens of articles and two books on topics ranging from luxuriant environmentalism to homesteading skills. The events he hosts at Wheaton Labs have resulted in the development of rocket stove and rocket mass heater technology, massive earthworks featuring extensive hugelkultur, solar dehydrators, and lots of round wood timberframe structures like a truly passive earth-bermed solar greenhouse and a mega-cheap and luxurious home design called the Wofati, as well as many, many other permaculture innovations.
