World Wide Cinema
World Wide Cinema, MPL’s free monthly film series of first-run independent and foreign films is back! Screenings are held the second Friday of each month in the Cooper Room on Level Four. All films are shown in the original language with subtitles. Film starts at 6:30. Doors are open from 6:15-6:45 and entry after 6:45 is not allowed. Attendees must enter from the library’s parking garage, all other doors are locked.

April’s film is a family drama 200 Meters that tells the story of a couple living in two Palestinian villages, only 200 meters apart but separated by the Israeli dividing wall. After his son has had an accident and is hospitalized, the father must rush to cross the Israeli checkpoint. His 200-meter journey turns into an odyssey joined by other travelers all determined to cross the checkpoint. Running time is 96 minutes.
The King of Laughter

May’s film is an Italian-Spanish biographical drama The King of Laughter, about actor and playwright Eduardo Scarpetta’s legal battle against Gabriele D’Annunzio over his parody of the latter’s The Daughter of Iorio (1904). Running time is 133 minutes.
