Steamboats – Montana 1864
May 24
This month we will focus on the story of steamboats from St. Louis fighting their long arduous way up the Missouri to deliver Indian annuities, trade goods, and supplies to gold camps, as well as adventurers, families, and soldiers to the head of navigation. From the arrival of Major Blake’s Dragoons to the loading of millions of dollars in gold dust for safe transport downriver, steamboats emerged as a vital transportation link in the 1860s.
