Speaker: Kirby Lambert. The “Last Best Place” is not actually one place but many—places large and small, natural and human-made, urban and rural, old and not-so-old. Behind each are unique stories that, when woven together, tell the colorful history of the state we call home.

Fur Trade in the Early 19th Century

Speaker: David C. Gray. This month, explore the early 19th-century American fur trade and what drove it, who shaped it, how it affected Native populations, and why this booming enterprise eventually came to an end.

Shaping Boundaries: Our History in Maps

Speaker: Bruce Mihelish. Many European countries laid claim to these lands. Indigenous people felt differently. Learn how the fourthlargest state was shaped between 1500 and 1950.

Drawing on his framing of history, this illustrated presentation will invite you to reconsider your own perception of the early decades of Missoula County.
